08 Jan 4 Players To Help Build Your Best NBA DraftKings Lineup (1/8/20)
Welcome back, everyone. Wednesdays are always great for NBA DFS, and tonight is no different.
Below are four of my favorite targets to help build your best NBA DraftKings lineup for tonight’s nine-game main slate.
Note: The following players are questionable, and if some or all of them are out, the slate would change drastically. Make sure to follow me on Twitter for updates throughout the day.
- Bradley Beal: Game-time Decision (Leg)
- Domantas Sabonis: Questionable (Knee)
- Malcolm Brogdon: Questionable (Back)
James Harden (PG/SG, $12,800)
Fantasy owners might not need to be told to play James Harden, but I’m going to do it anyway. Russell Westbrook will rest tonight on the first half of a back-to-back, allowing Harden to dominate the offense even more than usual.
In his last game, Westbrook was on the court, and Harden still dropped a 44-point triple-double, totaling 83.25 Draftkings fantasy points. Without Westbrook on the court this season, Harden’s numbers are staggering. He is averaging 1.85 DraftKings fantasy points per minute and a 46.8% usage rate.
The icing on the cake is Harden’s matchup. Tonight, the Houston Rockets face off against the Atlanta Hawks in a game with a 237-point total. This game not only has the highest total, but it is 15 points higher than the next closest game. The Hawks are ranked third-worst in defensive efficiency this season and first in pace in the last 10 games.
Harden is a necessity in cash games and a scary fade in GPPs. His insane numbers without Westbrook and an ideal game environment make him the best play on tonight’s nine-game slate.
Michael Porter Jr. (SF/PF $3,800)
Denver Nuggets small forward Will Barton has been ruled out for tonight’s game for personal reasons, allowing Michael Porter Jr. to likely slide into the starting five. After a ‘redshirt’ season last year, Porter Jr. has started to become a major contributor for the Nuggets in recent weeks.
In his lone start this season, Porter played 26 minutes and scored 28.5 DraftKings fantasy points. When given playing time, he is averaging 1.06 DraftKings fantasy points per minute.
Against the Dallas Mavericks in tonight’s matchup, Porter should play at least 25 minutes with upside into the high 20s.
At only $3,800, MPJ is underpriced for his expected role tonight. Fire him up with confidence, as a solid value play on tonight’s slate.
Josh Hart (SG/SF, $4,200)
Josh Hart should draw another start tonight with Jrue Holiday out again with an elbow injury. In his time this season with Holiday off the court, Hart produced to the tune of 0.89 DraftKings fantasy points per minute. Unfortunately, Hart disappointed those who rostered him last game due to foul trouble. He picked up two quick fouls, which limited his minutes and production in the first half.
Tonight, Hart should see high-20s to low-30s in terms of minutes in a matchup against the Chicago Bulls. Although the Bulls have improved on the defensive end lately, they are still ranked in the bottom third in the league in defensive efficiency.
If he can produce at his season average tonight, Hart has the ability to hit six times value for his price tag. Wednesday’s game looks like a great bounce-back spot, and he is a great addition to a lineup with high-end stars like James Harden.
Zach LaVine (PG/SG $8,900)
Zach LaVine will likely go under-owned for his ceiling tonight in a matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans. Anytime a slate includes fantasy all-stars like James Harden, Luka Doncic, and Giannis Antetokounmpo, the next group of players below their salary tier are often low owned. That is because many rosters will aim to include one $11,000+ player and find values to accompany the rest of the lineup.
James Harden projects to be one of the most popular players on tonight’s slate, and rightfully so, but roster construction gets pretty tricky if fantasy owners try to include Harden and a player in LaVine’s salary range. LaVine has had two straight games of 45+ DraftKings fantasy points, including a 52.5-DraftKings-fantasy-point game against the Boston Celtics two games ago.
Tonight’s matchup is certainly a plus for LaVine as well. The Pelicans’ best defender Jrue Holiday is out tonight, and the Bulls have an implied total of 4.5 points more than their season average. LaVine makes for an intriguing large-field GPP play and will provide routes to different roster construction than the masses.
