Hoping to continue their momentum from last week’s 17-point comeback to tie the Detroit Lions, the Arizona Cardinals headed right on through to Baltimore in Week 2 to face Lamar Jackson and the Ravens. Last week in Miami, there was never such a sight as witnessing Jackson throw for five touchdown passes against the Dolphins, on his way to a perfect passer rating and a 59-10 victory. Not bad for the young man whom many said would be no good as an NFL passer.
This week Jackson started where he left off, hitting his first five targets for 74 yards, including a 27-yard TD to tight end Mark Andrews. He followed with a one-yard strike to another tight end, Hayden Hurst, in the second quarter, en route to a 17-6 halftime lead. Survivors who picked the Ravens were confidently thinking you got to love me now.
The Cardinals had other plans though, pulling to within three points at 20-17 in the fourth quarter, thanks to three field goals by Zane Gonzalez and QB Kyler Murray’s 349 passing yards. Ravens coach John Harbaugh would need to rely on his running game to chew up the clock hoping “feets don’t fail me now.” That worked well as Jackson ran for 24 yards in the fourth quarter, and running back Mark Ingram added 20 more and a key first down. Still, it was no little feat for the Ravens to hang on to win. Up 23-17 with three minutes left, and facing a 3rd and 11 from their own 45-yard line, Jackson floated a pass that looked so pretty for a 41-yard completion to Marquise “Hollywood” Brown. That helped seal the deal for the Ravens and advance many wise survivors to Week 3.
Here are some early considerations for next week with early point spreads provided by fivethirtyeight.com:
Dallas Cowboys (-13.5) vs. Miami Dolphins
Houston Texans (-10) vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
Green Bay Packers (-7.5) vs. Denver Broncos
