09 Mar IDP 411, E20 | NFL Mock Draft and Gallimore Interview
Is Ron Rivera playing chess? Plus an interview with Neville Gallimore
The NFL combine always provides a big shakeup in the Draft, and this year is no different in our Mock Draft. Miami trading up for their future, and 3 Oklahoma Sooners taken in the first round? The SEC continues to reign as big workouts have changed the layout. I really believe Ron Rivera is playing chess with Miami, as talking to Tua Tagovailoa is giving him the fire power to move back. They would get the player they really want, plus more picks! We have jam packed this post to include not only Jarod’s mock, but the latest episode of the IDP 411 podcast with Jordan and Steve, that breaks down the mock and has a special bonus interview with Defensive Tackle Neville Gallimore. Rejoice #IDPArmy! There is enough content to satisfy you for days!
I have been saying for months I think that Dallas should be trading Dak to the Bengals, and try to sign Tom Brady to a 2-year deal, plus go after his heir apparent in Trevor Lawrence for next year’s draft. However, the Bengals are not willing to risk it, so they take Burrow here.
Miami wants a QB for the future, and they do not believe they have it on the roster. Ron Rivera wants more picks, so, he played chess at the Combine showing a ton of interest in Tua – just to get two first round picks and the player that he really wants. #HTTR
This is simple: You do not pass on a player that is arguably the best in the draft in a spot that you are desperate to fill! Chase Young is a can’t miss. Get a new face of the franchise.
You have to protect your new starting QB and stud RB. Go after the monster of a man with crazy athletic ability. Becton is just too good, and had a great Combine showing.
5. Washington Redskins – Isaiah Simmons, LB | Clemson
Team needs: OL, EDGE, CB, TE, WR, S
Total team picks (6)
This was a genius move on Rivera’s part. The chess master made sure it was known he talked to Tua Tugovailoa just so he could move back in the draft, and he got two picks in the first round to get what I believe is the best player in the draft! Simmons can play anywhere, but Rivera needs his new Luke Kuechly. Simmons can be the leader in the middle for the defense that already has a strong defensive line.
The Chargers have moved on from Philip Rivers, and as talented as Love may be, Herbert is battle tested and has a chance to show he is the franchise QB everyone thought he would be. He has a cannon for and arm, and takes care of the football limiting his turnovers. I just hope he does not hold the ball too long and take too many sacks with a weak offensive line in front of him.
Okudah is one of the best Cornerback prospects in most recent years. He has great coverage skills, and is a great athlete. This is a great move for Carolina who could not get Simmons to replace their loss at Linebacker.
As much as Kyler Murray wants former teammate CeeDee Lamb to be his new receiving weapon, he will have to settle with staying on his feet more often. This is where the GM stands his ground in the war room and goes after Wirfs, who had an outstanding Combine, and will protect their franchise QB for a long time.
The Jaguars are going to be in need with possibly moving on from Yannick Ngakoue, who has made it known he does not want a long-term deal with Jacksonville. Derrick Brown is a sure fire open field tackler with great strength. He is the choice here without a doubt.
This could be interesting in the coming weeks of Free Agency with the Redskins giving Trent Williams permission to seek a trade. But, until that happens, the move to get Thomas is the best option to keep Baker Mayfield off his back. Especially if they believe he is the future they believe him to be in Cleveland.
Just like the Browns trying to protect their young QB and keep him safe and healthy, I see the Jets doing the same thing with their pick in Alabama stud Offensive Tackle Jedrick Wills. I could see a Wide Receiver taken here, but you have to do what you have to do.
Gruden and Mayock are on the same page it seems, and I think this will be a consensus. The Raiders need a stud WR and this could very well be CeeDee Lamb, but they go and get Jeudy here, hoping they have the next Julio Jones in waiting, which will take pressure off of the run game.
The Colts want the next Patrick Mahomes, so they take a big risk on the strong arm QB out of Utah State. I have my reservations with him after his “dropped” marijuana charges before the bowl game. But, there is no denying the talent of this young man.
This depends on what the Bucs decide they are doing with Shaq Barrett. I think Kinlaw showed he is worth this pick, especially after a strong Senior Bowl showing. Shout out to ExpandTheBoxscore.com for making sure we saw this first hand!
This is a no brainer in who I believe is the best overall WR in the draft, and would give the Broncos an extra weapon to take pressure off their QB and run game. Lamb put on a show at the Combine and his time at Oklahoma. He is the best wideout in the draft in my opinion. He can catch, run great routes, and will embarrass people with his blocking skills.
If you have watched the tape on this young man, you know that he could be a game changer for Atlanta on the defensive side of the ball. He has a ton of talent, and was a big reason LSU won a National Title. Chaisson is only below Chase Young in talent. He has a load of it, and should help a lot on that Defensive Line.
As much as I think moving on from Byron Jones is not the right move here, it is cheaper in the short term. Jones is getting paid by someone, and he is the one player the Cowboys are not willing to pony up for long term to pay.
With them trading a few players away they have a lot of holes to fill in Free Agency, and this WR class is loaded, but with few great Cornerbacks. They will wait until the Second Round for a Wide Receiver and get the Corner they need now. Henderson is an overall great corner, and a solid pick for the Dolphins here.
The Raiders have a decision to make here, and it will either be Queen or Murray at LB. But, they will decide to take their second SEC player in this draft and take Queen, who is a straight hammer that ran a 4.5 flat forty-yard dash at the Combine. He is not Devin White, but he is better than a ton of older Linebackers they have on the roster right now.
With the trade they had with the Rams, the Jaguars have moved on from A.J. Bouye. They look to shore up the backside with the rangy Alabama Safety in McKinney, and a huge need on the backside of the field for the Jaguars.
Did you watch this college football season? This kid can fly, and has a knack for getting open in space. Alshon Jeffery is always injured, and the Eagles need a guy for Wentz to rely on besides his beloved TE Zach Ertz. Jefferson is their guy! This pick instantly improves the Eagles.
After a poor showing at the Combine the Bills got the guy they wanted, only a lot cheaper then they expected. Reagor is a stud, and the entire Big 12 Conference is happy they do not have to guard him anymore. The Bills might have got one of the steals of the First Round, because he ran a slower than expected 40 time at the Combine. Josh Allen is one happy QB with this decision.
Let’s be real…. no one knows what Belichick is going to do here. But, whoever his QB of the future is going to be, he must protect him. Hoping last year’s First Round WR pick N’Keal Harry pans out after letdown rookie season, the Patriots will need to get younger on the Offensive Line.
The Saints need a WR to compliment Michael Thomas. It can only help their aging QB in Drew Brees. With Shenault having core muscle surgery after the Combine (which he played injured with all year), this might be just what the doctor ordered. The kid can flat our run routes and catch a football! Having the surgery is a blessing in disguise, as he is as tough as they come, and will be an excellent addition to Sean Peyton’s great offense.
So many rumors about Stefon Diggs being in the back of Minnesota’s mind. However, his brother is a great corner, and Trae Waynes has not been the answer on the outside. Minnesota looks to rectify that with Diggs.
What I think will be the second pick traded by Miami for the QB they wanted, the Redskins get a standout Defensive End in A.J. Espenesa out of Iowa, who has a great tape even though his combine was lackluster. His tape does not lie.
The Seahawks need a complimentary Cornerback opposite of Shaquille Griffen or Flowers. You can never have enough competition, right? Terrell was a staple for Clemson. Let us see if he can do the same for the Seahawks moving forward. I could also see them trade this pick away for more picks.
To be honest, I think Murray dropping this far is only due to team needs and whatever the Raiders decide to do. However, the Ravens love Oklahoma players – they had 4 of them on the roster last year. They fill a big need at LB and take a born leader in Murray.
Who will be the QB of the future for the Titans? Because, I think they will franchise tag Derrick Henry. I believe they let Ryan Tannehill test Free Agency, and get him cheap. But, whoever it is, they will need a deep threat. Why not take the fastest WR at this year’s combine? He also has great hands and ball skills. Speed kills, and Ruggs has plenty of that and then some.
Aaron Rodgers needs another WR to compliment Davante Adams. The big bodied Mims with 4.3 speed is the guy that has somehow falls into the Packers lap. Mims climbed Draft boards after a strong showing at the Senior Bowl, and will be a good addition to the Packers.
The 49ers are in a deep need of a solid young Defensive Back on their aging defense. Why not get one of the most coveted safeties from the National Champs in LSU’s Grant Delpit, who is also the Jim Thorpe award winner.
The Super Bowl champions are going to try and repeat. They take a risk and get a guy who models his game after the best Defensive Tackle in the league (listen to interview). Gallimore is an outright freak who ran a 4.79 forty-yard dash, and has phenom type hands, and quick feet! They need to shore up a good pass rusher and Gallimore could be that guy for them.
