4 Players To Help Build Your Best NBA DraftKings Lineup (1/27/20)

Welcome back, everyone. Unfortunately, the basketball world forever changed yesterday after NBA legend Kobe Bryant’s tragic passing. In yesterday’s games, players and fans across the league paid tribute to Kobe and honored his legacy. This week, as well as the rest of the season, will have a somber tone since Kobe touched so many people both inside and outside of the NBA.

The entire NBA will play the rest of this season in his honor, starting with tonight’s six games.

Below are four of my favorite targets to help build your best NBA DraftKings lineup.

As always, feel free to contact me on Twitter with any questions.

Top Play

Andre Drummond (C, $9,600)

With so much value available on today’s slate, the “stars-and-scrubs” approach will be very common. One of the most intriguing spend-up options is Andre Drummond at $9,600. This season, Drummond is averaging around 1.4 DraftKings fantasy points per minute, but in his last three games, he is averaging a massive 1.59 DraftKings fantasy points per minute.

Tonight, Drummond returns home to face the Cleveland Cavaliers. Three weeks ago in this same matchup, Drummond scored 28 points and collected 23 rebounds, finishing the game with 62.25 DraftKings fantasy points. The Cavaliers are ranked second-worst in the league in defensive rating, and they allow the most points in the paint in the NBA. This is obviously an ideal matchup for an elite rebounder like Drummond, and he should have his way down low.

At only $9,600, Drummond is underpriced on a slate with plenty of value. There are several stars in positive matchups today, but Drummond stands out as one of the most appealing plays on the board. He is a great start to cash game lineups due to his high floor and upside at his price.

Value Plays

Note: After publication, Clint Capela was ruled out and James Harden was upgraded to questionable. This leaves the three players below in question until Harden’s status is confirmed. The issue is that the Rockets game is the latest game on the slate. Also, LaMarcus Aldridge was ruled out for tonight with a thumb injury. Without the Harden news, the two best values on the slate currently are Isaiah Hartenstein (PF/C, $3,900) and Jakob Poeltl (C, $3,200). Any further updates will be posted on Twitter, especially if early news on James Harden is released.

Danuel House Jr. (SF/PF, $3,900), Austin Rivers (PG/SG, $3,600), Chris Clemons (PG, $3,000)

Tonight, the Houston Rockets will be without superstars James Harden and Russell Westbrook. As a result, DraftKings priced up a few Houston players, but surprisingly left others unadjusted. For example, Eric Gordon’s price rose to $6,900 and Clint Capela’s salary increased to $8,500. DraftKings left some of the Houston salaries untouched, however, creating obvious values, specifically Danuel House, Austin Rivers, and Chris Clemons.

This season, Westbrook and Harden average a combined 62.1 points per game, 70.3% assist rate, and 68.8% usage rate. There is not a large sample size with both Harden and Westbrook off the court, as Houston often tries to stagger their minutes, but Rivers and House should see minutes into the low-30s, and Clemons will likely play around 20 minutes. Even at their rates with Harden and Westbrook on the court this season, these players would be expected to pay off their salaries during that projected playing time. All three of these players are underpriced for their expanded role in tonight’s game, making them the best point-per-dollar options on the slate.

In GPPs, it is wise to develop a strategy to differentiate from the massive Rockets chalk players. Essentially, with each Rockets player fantasy owners add to their lineup, the more they should look to be different in other areas. That will help to avoid chalky lineup constructions after plugging in the cheap Rockets. Pairing two to four Rockets with Andre Drummond is probably the correct move in cash games, but it will likely be too chalky to succeed in large-field GPPs. Getting the cheap and expensive Houston players right tonight will be the key to the slate.
