START

Chris Carson, SEA at Indianapolis
The biggest question with Carson is can he stay healthy? If so, he’ll move into the Stud category. The key to letting Russ cook, is having a healthy Chris Carson. The Colts had a top-10 defense in 2020 and the Seahawks will need to run the ball to keep the Colts defenders off of Wilson. Carson is also very capable of contributing in the passing game.

Mike Davis, ATL vs. Philadelphia
Last season, the Eagles gave up 27-or-more points in 9 games. I know, this is the third time that I’ve referenced this stat. But, if you’re looking for a reason to start Davis that sure is a pretty good one. Davis caught 59 balls on 70 targets in 2020 while filling in for Christian McCaffrey, so there’s plenty of upside to be had in this game.

James Robinson, JAX at Houston
The season-ending injury to RB Travis Etienne has opened the door to a heavy workload for Robinson. The Jags will be facing one of the worst defenses in the league and with a rookie QB under center, look for HC Urban Meyer to turn to Robinson to control the clock. Toss in the fact that the Jaguars also had one of the worst defenses in 2020 and Robinson could be in for a couple of scores.

BENCH

Houston RBs vs. Jacksonville
If you have any idea how new HC David Culley is going to divvy up touches between David Johnson, Mark Ingram, Phillip Lindsey and Rex Burkhead, please let the rest of us know. If I was forced to pick one, I’d probably go with Ingram. This backfield looks to be a fantasy nightmare.

N.Y. Jets RBs at Carolina
Despite adding Tevin Colemand and Michael Carter to shore up the backfield, it appears that Ty Johnson was the best back in the preseason. With a rookie QB under center and no clear cut leader at RB, this is a backfield to avoid in Week 1.

Saquon Barkley, NYG vs. Denver
Barkley is clearly a stud when he is 100% healthy. But, word is that even if he plays in Week 1, he could be on a snap count. Look for the Giants to be very careful with Barkley easing him back into action. Hopefully you have an option that can provide some upside. Once healthy, Barkley will take his rightful spot among the Studs.
